Yes the are soft I believe Phelps was the inventor of the soft gum drop floater

The floaters on the left in the picture are the ones I like. When trolled, they exert an upward pull which helps keep out of snags. Live minnows hooked through the lips seem to stay frisky and last forever with this setup - until a bite, that is!

Default Binkleman

I still have a bunch made by one of the real legends of our sport, Bill Binkleman. His were round, not sure if they are cork or foam, but are hard. In his writings, he said he went with that design after watching balloons on a string, erratic movements all over the place. Various sizes, have a lot of floatation. I've use some of the soft types, and they work fine for me too, but the Binklemans seem quite a bit more buoyant, and being hard hasn't ever seemed to be a factor. Either way, good presentation in a lot of situations. I've even used them to keep a bait off the bottom while ice fishing.

If you ever want to part with some of Bill's floaters I would gladly buy some from you. Used to have a bunch myself but from too many moves over the past 30 years they disappeared. Pretty sure they were made from cork.

Also, if you might have a copy of Nightcrawler Secrets by Bill that you would part with I am definitely interested. arrowskp@mchsi.com

Thanks, Kelly

Kelly I emailed the Fresh water fishing hall of fame and they have a copy of Nightcrawler secrets in their library but they won't sell it they do however have "Catching Walleyes" by Bill for sale for $25 plus $5 shipping.I don't know if this helps or not.I really want to read nightcrawler secrets now though.I found pieces of it online and what I read was very interesting. Now I want to read the whole thing somebody has got to have a copy of it somewhere.

I have Bill's second Nightcrawlers Secrets book plus 3 blue books, Catching Walleyes, Catching Walleyes with Nightcrawlers and Minnow Methods for Catching Walleyes. Actually not sure about exact title names as the books are at the WI house and am in Iowa typing this. Will be in WI after the fourth.

Love all of Bills books and the 3 blue books he references the method in Nightcrawler Secrets all the time but yet doesn't say what it is. Even does that in Nightcrawler Secrets II.

email me at arrowskp@mchsi.com about where you have found excerps of NightCrawler Secrets online. Also, maybe we could discuss some things about the other books I have.

Wonder if one goes there if Nightcrawlers Secrets book could be read? Hayward is about 1.5-2 hours from the house in WI.
