Default Mille Lacs Lake - Weekend Outlook 12-15-2011

Even though we haven't made any significant ice since last Saturday night, Mille Lacs was spared the rain that hit the Twin Cities the past few days meaning that we didn't really loose any "thickness" either. Unfortunately, the high winds today have moved the main sheet of ice around somewhat opening some stretches along the north end and the west side. Because of these changes, we recommend that folks travel during the daylight hours for safety. We're seeing about a 50-50 split between "walkers" and "ATVers". As with any new ice, be sure to check the thickness yourself as you go.

The bite has been decent - the bays along the south end are giving up some perch and northern in 10-14 feet. Some folks are stretching out on the main part of the lake and finding walleye and perch in 20-25 feet. Fatheads and waxies are your top baits. Green and yellow are the top colors. Roland's Bay, Vineland and Isle Bay are the best spots.

We have gift certificates, wild rice/maple syrup packs and other goodies for your last minute stocking stuffers. These are available at our store. Our friend Dr. Sonar has some ideas too, including gift certificates that can be used for his upcoming Lowrance HDS sonar/GPS/mapping school this January. Check 'em out here: http://www.hightechfishing.com/store...tificates.html What a great idea for anyone running Lowrance's HDS platform!

Don't forget to check out our weekly "shop special" at http://www.lundeens.com/shop.html .
Once again this winter we will be renting FL20's, power augers and underwater cameras. Be sure to reserve them ahead to assure availability.

Getting your house ready for the ice? We stock all sorts of "fish house stuff" like thermocouples, regulators, 12V light bulbs, mantles, globes and LP gas.

Auger dull? We have sharp new blades AND exchange blades in stock for most augers - spark plugs and oil too! Heck, we'll even fill your auger with pre-mixed gas and oil!

Finally, A school teacher injured his back and had to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. It fit under his shirt and was not noticeable at all. On the first day of the term, still with the cast under his shirt, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in school. Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, he opened the window as wide as possible and then busied himself with desk work. When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he took the desk stapler and stapled the tie to his chest. Discipline was not a problem from that day forth!

Have a great weekend,
