Default lead core amount

How much lead core in ft do I put out to get a #12 husky jerk to 20 ft at 1.5 mph? With a 10ft leader of fireline
thanks

If your speed was more in the range of 2.1-2.4, 4 colors would get you down in the neighborhood of 20 feet.

1.5 mph is quite a bit slower, and I'm guessing you will be close to 3 colors, and imo it's more likely to be less than 3 colors than it is to be more. Still - I don't have much lead core experience at speeds that slow.

Wouldn't he need more then 4 colors since he is going slower ? Going slower makes a diving plug dive less affectively right ? Please correct me if I am wrong as I never used leadcore line.

The slower you go the deeper the lead line will sink. The lead line is much heavier then the stick bait he is pulling.

The diameter of the lead core line is big so faster speeds cause the line to pull the bait up the water column.

Think of it like 6 lb line will run deeper than 20 lb line - all due to the diameter of line and resistance when pulling it through the water.

Default Huskys @ 20ft

...just an idea, I troll Little Bay de Noc in cold water... I pull Huskys at 20 ft. @ 1.5 mph. Skip the lead-core, go to the shallow running models of the huskys vs. the deep divers, and use snap weights instead. There are snap weight dive curves for 1.5 mph. This system works phenomenal!!

And much simpler. I use bottom bouncer weights, less line and more control. Fish ain't that smart.

Agreed if he is open water trolling. If he is contour trolling the shoreline where there are lots of in and out turns then lead core is better. The inside snap weights would drop when you turn.
