Is it possible or does Down Imaging work on Humminbird electronics using the Universal Sonar off a Minn Kota trolling motor? I know I can add a Humminbird HDSI transducer and get both DI & SI. I really want do know how far US2 can take me or if maybe there is the possibility of a Bird update in the future.
To make a long story short, on the bow of my boat, should I have a 898/998/1198C DI or a 898/998/1198 C? We all know the x98C SI is a waste w/o the HDSI, it it the same case on the DI? |

Down imaging is not compatible with the US2 tranducer currently installed in trolling motors.

It is my understanding that Side Imaging is only possible with a Humminbird HDSI transducer. My issue is that the same for Down Imaging, and it seems to look that way based on the previous response.

One advantage to having an 1198 SI unit at the bow, is that you could network it with a second SI unit at the console and share all of your sonar data collected from one HDSI ducer mounted at the transom. With an 1158DI at the bow, you would be unable to get SI data over the network from an HDSI. |

As already stated above, your down/side imaging will not be compatible with your US2 sonar. The US2, in my experience, is a good transducer, but it's not made for the Hummunibird down or side imaging.
In my opinion, save your money from the DI/SI. I have it on a 898, and would have rather spent the extra 500 bucks on a larger screen without that feature. I have the 898 in the console, and a 958 in the bow. I rarely use the feature, and really don't see the advantage to it. I thought I would love it, but....... |

I mounted my Side Imaging 898 at the bow this fall. I will show it to you in the spring. Should be sweet.
I read on it at humminbird side imaging forum on yahoo. Good resource for side imaging units. |
