how often do you change oil in yuor lower unit (spring and fall or more often) thanks

in fall before i store it for winter. I don't want any water to freeze so you are good to go .

I check it in the spring, once a month during the season and in the fall.

Then, I will change it every 5 -7 years.

As long as there is no moisture in the oil there is really no need to change the oil.

You are looking at a simple set of gears that are loaded much lighter than the transaxle in your car, or the differential in your car. Most cars go their entire life without ever having their oil changed in the differential.

The only difference between the motor and a differential, is that the motor is underwater. So, as long as a check reveals no sign of oil; there is 0 reason to change the oil.

But certainly if a person wants to change the oil now and then, do it. It is your boat and engine. It certainly won't hurt.
