Default Cabelas Platinum ZX Rod setup

Ok, I brought this up before but 4:00 Buddy cost that thread.
I've been a G Loomis guy till now. I broke one of my old Loomis poles last summer and sent it back costing me 27$ postage. I got a call on Dec. 23 from Loomis telling me that though it was under limited warrenty, they would send me a new one for 120$. Maybe it was the timing of the call as it was right before Christmas and $$$$ flying out the door already, but, it just pissed me off. I told the Loomis rep. to forget it and will no longer purchase a G Loomis product ever again.

So now I am interested in purchasing the Platinum ZX rod. I am asking for advice from the fellas here, or their thoughts if they were to purchase this rod. I would use this for pitching jigs and vertical jigging only. My initial thinking is go with the 6'6", ML, 1 piece. Its just hard to pull the trigger on this purchase without any form of history on this rod.

Gonna need a new reel. Thoughts?

Last I was on the Cabelas website it didn't look like they were in stock yet. I'm looking foward to getting one of these in my hand as well. I wish they would have shown the wt. in the catalog.

Looks like they now have a limited supply of spinning rods.

Just curious DH, you think that they have some rods in? I couldn't find any evidence that they had any yet. I hope your right as they have advertised this product for a month or so and I'm getting antzy to get my mitts on one.

In the online Cabelas "store", they show all but two models in stock. Some are showing as limited stock, but can still be ordered. With their easy return policy and free shipping for in store pickup, I've recently picked up a bunch of the Cabelas MagTouch 50th anniversary rods. The Platinum ZX rods were on my short list but couldn't pass up the deal on the MagTouch.

Default The deed is done

Thanks Doubleheader and Mike Z. Every time I went to the Cabelas site to check on the rod and clicked on it, they take me to the casting rods which are still 5-6 weeks for backorder. I guess I need to pay more attention to detail as they did have the spinning rods like you guys said.

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger and got the rod mentioned above. 199.99 + 8.00 for addl. oversize postage.
Went with the Cabelas tournament ZX spinning reel as well as it was 20$ off. Matches the rod nicely.
Gonna spool this up with Berkley TransOptic mono.

Thanks for letting me obsess. Bring on June.

No worries. I'd love to get your opinion on the rod once you get the chance to use it.

I'd like to hear how you like it myself. Heading to a big outdoor show tomorrow and will stop at Cabelas too, hopefully I'll be able to put one of these bad boys in my hand.

Yes, it would appear that Cabelas realized that they were missing the boat by offering less expensive rods only (in their own line). I wonder who makes the rods for them? I know that Diawa used to make their reels (meaning to me that they get quality suppliers).
Good luck with your new combo.
I am also looking at the Okuma C3 as a possible St Croix replacement/partner.
