I searched this subject but didn't find anything recent and a lot has changed in the past couple years with these companies. I am looking a purchasing a new rod for vertical jigging as well as pitching jigs around some structure and have decided on either a 6'3'' Medium X-fast in the St Croix Legend Tournament or a 6' Medium Fast GLoomis IMX. I was also considering the 6'3'' Medium GLoomis Walleye Series rod. Anyone have any feedback on quality or customer service with either company recently? I've dealt with St Croix recently on a couple other rods and wasn't exactly pleased with them so that got me thinking about the GLoomis line. I know some of you guys own both or have used them so I'm looking for current feedback.

I can't comment on any of the specific rods you mention but I do own both St. Croix and G.Loomis rods. I have never had to deal with Loomis on a warranty claim but according to their website it appears more complex than St. Croix warranty service.
I used St. Croix's warranty on a Legend Tournament rod that I broke last summer and I was treated real well and had a new rod at my door in short order...even though it was I who messed up and broke the rod. That spoke volumes to me. Did you see the bargains on St Croix Legend Tounament Bass rods from last years line up? It's on their website and you could save a few bucks on that 63MXF. Good Luck |

I have broken 4 loomis rods and sent them back. Only had to pay for shipping. One was a 9'6' GLX, one was a 7'10" walleye trolling rod, 6'2" walleye jig rod, and a 6'3" GLX. All were my fault. I have not heard any bad things about St. Croix though.

Have several of the G Loomis and St Croix. While both are great choices I like the G Loomis best for jigging. 6'6" medium with soft tip.
Have never broke one of either brand so can't address warranty issues. But they both catch fish and are very sensitive. I may be crazy but I think when the bite is subtle I feel more than my boat partners with other brands of rods and catch more fish simply because of the rod quality. Mike Kansas. |

In terms of service I have not experienced either company lacking.
As for the rods themselves, my personal thoughts are that for vertical jigging the Loomis IMX stick is more sensitive than the St Croix Legend Tournaments. But I have not fished a Loomis Walleye 6'3" in their "blended fibers" . Seems like a nicer length and handle for what you want though. I think for tossing jigs the St Croix 68MXF and 69MLXF are very nice. Perhaps a Loomis 782 IMX would be a great rod for both? Keep the reel weight down and enjoy. Also, keep an eye on this forum's swap board and Craigslist for deals. Then you might be able to get a St Croix Elite or a Loomis GLX for your moeny. They are out there and still have lifetime warranties. |

Thanks guys! Checked them out at a local store and I think I am going to go with the Loomis 6'3'' Medium Walleye Series GLX. Rod felt a little better in my hand than the St Croix did. Not too crazy about the split grip.

Not sure. I have a Pflueger Supreme size 25 but I'm thinking about buying a Shimano Stradic. Any suggestions for what would be a good match? Haven't bought the rod yet but will be buying it this week.
