My 2 year old Golden Retriever has been diagnosed with joint trauma in both front "wrists". We had been treating him with Ascriptin when we noticed limping, which has been effective. However, now that joint taps have confirmed that the limping was not simply a pulled muscle (as we originally suspected), we are being advised to treat any future flareups with either Rimadyl or Deramaxx. On-line research of the side effects is concerning. We are also going to start a daily regimin of Cosequin DS that will hopefully prevent any additional joint deterioration. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS

Gull,
I have two labs that are pretty big boys and have joint issue especially after working hard and sometimes in colder weather. We use Deramaxx but only on a as needed basis. We were originally told to use it more regular but have found a sporadic 'as needed' basis works fine and in theory should cut down potential long term side effects. FWIW |

My 14 year old lab is on Rimadyl and has been for 2 years. I was apprehensive at first but it has given my arthritic lab new life. I realize if Liver enzymes are high it's not advisable but it's a risk/reward thing. My lab is living proof Rimadyl works.
