Default Motor support rod needed?

I recently puchased a new Lund Impact 1875 w/Mercury 150 4 stroke. Just wondering if I should buy a motor support rod for use when trailering? Are they necessary or is the motor able to support its weight when trailering on paved roads?

Thanks in Advance

It is called a "transom saver" and that what it does. All of the weight of the motor is on the transom, thus the transom is the one that supports the weight. Absolutely, buy one.

Pick up a M-Y Wedge and centering clips. Much easier to use than the Transom Saver and doesn't scratch your outboard.

When in doubt, read the owners manual.
Below is from the 2012 Mercury 150 4S owners manual, if you can safely tow with the motor vertically, do so. If it needs to be tilted-up, use a transom saver bar, like shown in the diagram.

Mostly use mine on Missouri River, lots of mid range cruising (I'm still learning to read the river and finding where the sandbars and trees are and aren't). Cruise speed at 3800 rpm is 30-32. So far it's been everything I wanted. Quiet, very good on fuel, plenty of power, planes out very fast. Easy to pull tubes and skiers when not fishing. WOT with 3/4 fuel and 3 adults was 46.9 downriver last week. Saw 48 on Minn lake with very light wind with full fuel and 2 adults. Stock aluminum prop. So far I'm very happy with the motor. I didn't buy smartctagt gauges but I'd guess I have 50 hrs +/- on it. Friend who just bought a new Yamaha F150 said noise is very comparable to his but thought acceleration and top end seemed better on Merc. I have nothing to back that up by his opinion though. Boat/motor setup is very sensitive to trim setting but I think that's a prop issue I'll deal with next spring.
