I agree st croix 6ft 3in medium extra fast tip is the cats meow for vertical jigging. Especially the 1/4oz size jigs.

i have 2 rods i use for vertical jigging both st croixs, a 6'3" meduim extra fast avid and a 6'9" meduim-light extra fast legend tournament (its the bass series). most people dont like the 6'9" for vertical but i havent had any problems with it, and i like the length for when it comes to pitching jigs as well.

I use a 6ft Avid Med-Lite - XF and a 6"10 GLoomis Walleye Mag-Lite XF. I actually prefer the GLoomis, I get just as good of a feel even though its longer and it has a little more backbone than a Med-Lite rod which gives a better hook set. Just my opinion though

The GLX version you mention is my favorite too.

I know all the positive talk about the Croix and I own a Legend Elite 63MXF, but I don't like it as much as the Loomis. I am going to take the Croix out of the locker more this year to compare them more. I certainly don't dislike it. I just prefer the Loomis.

I personally think the regular walleye series and the IMX series Loomis' are more sensitive than the Croix Tournament series.

St Croix and Loomis both make great rods.

For vertical jigging, I like to use as short a rod as possible.

Also, for vertical jigging, where you are not casting, the use of a bait casting style rod works very very well.

A 5 foot bait caster in the appropriate action to let the rod just get over the side of the boat works very well if you are sitting in a seat next to the edge of the boat.
