Can anyone tell me if this is a good motor? I just found a boat at a steal I don't know if I can pass up but it has the 2003 150hp Suzuki and I know nothing about those motors.

I had a 2003 140 on a Crestliner until last year when I upgraded to a Ranger. Great motor. Didn't go with another one because the dealer I worked with did not offer them but would not hesitate to buy another in the future. As with any used motor have it checked out but in general it's a good motor.

Ran one for 7 1/2 years on a 1800 Lund Explorer SS up until last fall. Parts getting more and more scarce since Suzuki hasn't made two-strokes since that year. Especially port side cylinder/jug assemblies. Some had casting defects in the powerhead that didn't seal up to mid-section very good. Mine was one of them. Notorious for exhaust cover bolts coming loose and allowing water into cylinders. I checked mine every month. Most of the time they were tight. Other times... well, they weren't. Suzuki didn't use any lock washers or threadlocker. Many had vapor separator tank sealing problems. Mine was one of those also. Took 3 new covers to figure out the needle wouldn't seal right and was pumping fuel straight into intake manifold through the evaporator line.

Same color and year but no dock rash. Hull was almost perfect other than some scrapes on keel from beaching.

Ran good once everything was straightened out. Blew the stator last fall for $1100 and I said I've had enough. Probably wouldn't buy another Suzuki but I haven't had any experience with their four strokes.

My friend has one on his 1800 explorer and had all sorts of issues (I don't remember all the details, sorry) when he first got it but since it's been reliable. It's a good performer but is very loud and very smokey. We give him a hard time cause it sounds like a muscle car. He saved thousands by going with that motor over a Yamaha four stroke and has regretted it since.

Joe- Yup same thing. Burned your eyes on down wind trolls but kept the bugs away! Tried about 5-6 different 2-stroke oils with no difference. Sounded really nice and it would really fly across the lake. Would stumble sometimes leaving dock but would always clean itself out and be fine the rest of the day. Package price new was about $6k less than another dealer with a Mercury or Yamaha at the time. I called around before I bought it new.
REW- Brownspoint Marine on the east coast has online parts and pricing with availability. I usually ordered things from them because they had it in stock and would ship same day. Dan's here in Minneapolis is good but mostly stocked 4-stroke parts whenever I'd call.

Thanks everyone for their replies. Well, I waited too long and it got sold. I thought it was a real steal at $8,800 OBO but then again it may have been cheap because it had the Suzuki 2 stroke on it vs a 4 stroke and I didn't know much about the suzuki and if it was a problematic motor so that kinda prevented me from jumping on it.
