Default Ice out, panfish biting!

Ice out has occurred on all western Minnesota lakes and the crappie and bluegill migration to shallow water has begun. Nice days where shallow water cover areas like dark-bottom bays, channels, and marinas warm quickly are best. A simple jig/slip-bobber setup fished on light line is best. I like Gypsi Jigs tipped with crappie minnows when crappies are the target, with Fire-Fly Jigs tipped with waxworms for 'gills. Again, think shallow, warm water for the best action. Also, please consider keeping a few fish for a meal and releasing the rest as these fish are very vulnerable at this time. Good luck on the water!
