For those who have flush mounted their 1198's in the dash, are you OK with that decision? Are there times you have difficulty reading it do to sun glare or some other reason? This appears to be about the only way to mount in my situation. Just wondering if your satisfied you did it!

BCL.
There are lots of folks who use the flat area where you would normally mount a depth finder and cut pieces of aluminum to reinforce the area on both sides of the dash. Then Mount an arm style electronics mount in the center of this reinforced area. Then, mount your electronics on the top of the arm which will give you plenty of versatility to adjust your unit as needed. Generally speaking, I dislike dash mounts because it is often difficult to see them with the steering wheel and other obstructions. Also, by raising the depth finder, it is much more in your normal line of vision so you have to take your eyes less off the horizon when driving and still be able to see the depth finder. REW |

Rew, there is a Garmin with a 5" screen in the center. That kind of screws up putting a arm in the center. The HB 1198si is a very large screen and it should be mounted some way in the center. I was thinging of removing the 5" and flush mount the HB, then use the Garmin on a gimble mount above and right of the HB. Here is a picture of the area on the Grady White.

I flush mounted mine and wish I would of used a Ram mount instead. It can be difficult to see sometimes if I'm back using the kicker.

BC,
For your particular boat, the flush mount might be the very best solution. What do you use the Garmin for? -- One option would be to use one of the Ram - lever swing arm mounts. For your particular layout, the swing lever might work well for you. I might suggest that you get your units, and with your normal position at the helm - have someone hold the units in various places to see which positions seem to make the most sense. REW |
