Default 4 Stroke Oil Change for Suzuki 225

I am going to change my own oil in my Suzuki 225 and just wondering if it is necessary to use the Suzuki brand oil or if I can just use a good quality oil ? Same with the filters

Thanks in advance

YOu can use any oil that meets manufacturers specifications. More important than type of oil.......do you check your oil level each time you go out to use the boat? And do you change it at the proper time (hours)? I don't think all that many folks check their oil levels like they should. Be one that does.

There are many oils out there that can be used. Just make sure it's the proper weight and meets the NMMA FC-W spec which is four cycle water cooled. Filters can be cross referenced at most auto parts stores. Take the Suzuki number to a CarQuest or Napa store for example. I'm sure they can do it.

Gone Again has a good recommendation. It seems to be a secret, but NAPA Marine is a big catalog.

On my 10th season running 4 stroke suzies. Best advice, order the Suzuki oil by the gallon on line from Browns Point. Good price and by the time you add in a filter, or two, you should hit their min. order value for free shipping. With no tax, no shipping, tough to find a better deal on a semi synthetic oil.

Default oil

I have always used full synthetic oil in all of my motors. Only the best for my motors and I have bought a replacement fram filter at an auto parts store that was actually a bit longer so it will clean more eficiently.

you use the best oil but FRAM filters.. I know most people don't know this but fram has some of the crappiest filters made.

wally I was thinking the same thing. Fram's are terrible!!! Also there are some big benefits to a semi vs a full synthetic come storage time.

Use any brand name motor oil as long as it meets the motor manf specs,
I use Mobil-1 full synthetic oil in all of my motors.
NAPA Gold and CarQuest 2nd line filters are made by WIX which are very good filters made in USA,
I would't use Fram, they are junk IMO
