How difficult was it to remove the red cap covering the idle mixture screw? It looks like I should be able to just drill a hole in the center, get some leverage and it will pop out..?? Just wondering.

While in the middle of adjusting my mixture screw, a mother #@$*^+% snott rocket help me relocate a trebble hook from his jaw to my left index finger. After a $30 co-pay and learning a slick way to remove an inbedded hook, I continued to fish, but wasn't really interested in finishing the adjustment. Did drop my idle speed without stalling alittle, but I'm still having trouble getting under 1.8MPH. How many turns out are you guys (that have drilled the hole) running your mixture screw? It seemed to be running ok, but i had to go a few more turns than I expected. I figured it would be in the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 range, but believe I was at 4 1/2 or 5. Mine started at fully seated from factory. It would be great to know where others are at. Thinking of plugging the hole and just trying the mixture adjustment.

Whats boat do you have this motor on? What prop you running? My 619 never ran than fast when just in gear. My current prop is a 4 blade solas 7 pitch 8.5" diameter when just in gear since I modified it. Before modification and turning the idle down I could do 1.4mph

Thanks
Daniel

after drilling a small hole put a sheetmetal screw in the hole and gently pull it out with pliers

My red cap was just red silicone. I stuck a dental pick in it and it pull right out.

My boat is a 621 with a 10x7 4 blade prop. I think I can do better if I take the time to get it set right. Heading to Plattte Creek Sat. night. Need to put my boat in to adjust it instead of messing with it while trolling.

The cap on mine is definitely not silicone. It is a brass fitting that appears to be pressed in. I need to be positive that it is covering the idle mixture screw before I drill it out.

That is it. Brass plug above the spring. Mine was the same. Drill in the center and it pops right out.

So on a carbureator mixture screw, if you turn the screw in (right) are you making the motor have less air more fuel or more air less fuel?

From what I gather, turning the screw left (counterclockwise) adds more air to the mix. I just got the brass plug drilled out and I am going to try adjusting it this weekend while out fishing. I will be going up 3000 feet in elevation, and I am thinking I will start with 2 full turns out and adjust from there if it is still loading up. I am going to hold off on drilling the hole in the throttle plate. Did you get yours adjusted correctly? If so, how many turns did you go?

I adjusted my carb about 3 weeks ago and also ran carb cleaner thru it. If I remember right the mixture screw it out 2 1/4 turns counter clockwise. There is a fine line of adjustment, two turns out it will not run and three turns out it will also not run. I never drilled the hole it the throttle plate since the motor has ran flawlessly ever since. Used the motor for 6 days straight on Green Bay trolling walleyes without issues. Now I can run .8 mph pulling 6 boards with no wind if I want to. Since I bought aTerrova I-Pilot this spring, the kicker get used less & less, unless I troll into the waves which I use it to assit the Terrova.
