I have a Auto Pilot 65# thrust 24V bow mount. What would make a 30 amp fuse holder on one leg of the leads melt and then blow. I would have thought the fuse would have blown before it got that warm to melt the holder. I noticed one slightly loose connection at the battery but the wing nut only moved ever so little.
The wiring has individual leads going up to the bow where I guess gets mixed at the plug receptical into 24V. Both batteries under a load tester were Good. But fighting a wind on a drift with the Auto pilot on and at 6 on the pedal she then stop working. I replaced the Fuse holder and fuse and now the battery indicator charge on the trolling motor doesn't even light up now. Is there another fuse under the cover or did I smoke the board? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks |

OK Not the trolling motor. I have a similar outlet in the back of the boat so I plugged in there and everything checks out. After I checked all fuses going up to the front of the boat again, I was wondering if anyone ever heard of one of those 4 prong outlets going bad.

Any chance you could post pics of the TM plug, outlet and fuse holder? Lots of different combinations out there. Most 4-wire plugs and sockets have a jumper within the plug, to create the "series" circuit needed for 24V.
A 65# 24V TM can pull 40 amps at full power, I've seen a lot of 30amp fuse holders that only use 10awg wire. Or, you could drag it over to my house,,,,,,,,, HRG

HRG, I too have a Lund, and yes the plug is what makes the 24V connection. Off the batteries the wire is 8 or 6ga. I had to purchase the large crimpers when i changed the fuse connector that melted so the wire is alright. But if I put a meter on them I get 12V on one and only 6V on the other. But if I stay near the batteries everything is 12V on both. If I take the plug to the back of the boat I get 12V on the red wire and 24V on the orange. If I do the same up front i get 6V and then 18v on the orange. I think I am going to go to West Marine and get a new outlet. If that fails I need directions from Lake Zurich. Thanks.
