Default Can I get more speed?

Looking for help to get more speed and RPM'S. I am running a 2001 Lund Pro Sport with a 115 hp "2+2" Mercury 2 Stroke. I am getting about 4800 RPM's with a WOT speed of about 35 to 36 mph GPS. I currently have a mercury aluminum prop with a pitch of 17. I beleive the WOT RPM for this motor is 5200. Any ideas?

Yes, but takes some playing around with motor height and props.

Your at the bottom of the rpm band, close to lugging the motor. You could easily drop 1 inch in pitch to pick your rpms up. And possibly your speed. Lots to look at here, like above stated. Motor height, blade profile, prop slip, trim angle, boat load. See if you can find some one that will let you test a few props, not all blades run the same even with the same pitch.

Bragg,
When running your boat wide open, do you trim your motor to its highest possible setting just before the boat starts to bounce, or you get blow out on the prop?

What is the elevation of the body of water on which you are running. Elevation and high temps and humidity really robs hp from the motor.

Try raising the motor to its highest mounting position. See if you can set the motor so that the cavitation plate is 2-3 inches above the bottom of the transom and then take the boat out to see if you get good prop hookup or if you get too much prop ventilation.

You need to be running about 5400 rpm. Normally the 17 or the 19 pitch prop is the one to use on this motor. But, your motor needs to make enough power to be able to turn the prop at the 5400 rpm.

Where is the spray line on your boat - front to back - when you are running as fast as you can. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Normally you should have the front 2/3rd of the boat completely out of the water. If, you have a wheel boat, the spray line when running wide open should be well behind you - typically about 4 feet in front of the transom.

Try running a high lift tempest or similar prop to get the bow lifted and minimize the boats drag.

If you can't get the bow up, move weight to the back of the boat. Move batteries back, move anchors back, move people back. Take the bow mount trolling motor back and temporarily set it in the back of the boat.

See how it goes.

Good luck
