Default Help, not marking fish or bottom at speed.

I have a 2050 sportfish Deep V Aluminum that I run a HB 997 with a Y cable and the SI tranducer mounted transom center and the 2D Tranducer mounted 15 inches off the side. Before splitting I could only keep bottom / sonar readings up to 7mph, aftewards it got better but not great. I was wondering how everyone elese setups up the transducers to hunt / search for fish at speed? I have been researching alumaducers and one guy told me to just silicone in my 2D transom mount to shoot thru???

Tinkering with graph settings won't help. It's all about proper transducer location. There's no reason that you can't collect 2D, SI, and DI data well into the 40s mph, all with a single transom-mounted HDSI transducer....I sure can!

Please post pictures of your transducer setup, from behind and from the sides, and we'll get you pointed in the right direction.

Fish,
Remember that with a riveted boat, you likely need to have the face of the transducer at least 1/2 and possibly 1 inch below the surface of the bottom hull.

Also, the front of the transducer should be 1/16th to 1/8th inch higher than the back of the transducer.

Also, the transducer should not be mounted in an area of transom turbulence behind a brace or strake on the hull.

If you follow these setup rules, you will likely have excellent bottom readings at speeds up to wide open.

Summary - drop, test, drop, test and retest until you find how low you need to go with your transducer to get a clean reading.

Please do as I'm having the same problem and would like to compare.Once I hit 25mph that's it. I can't get it any further from the rivets and I have tried multiple height setting with no reward.

Mr,
You can always get it further from the rivets.
You can always mount an arm on the back of the transom and have the transduer mounted as low as you need. (But you should never need to do that).

How much lower than the bottom of the hull can you mount the face of the transducer?
Do you have the transducer set so that the front of the transducer is a bit higher than the back of the transducer?



However, if you remove the transducer from the boat, do you have the transducer mount in the area that has the least turbulance on the back of the boat when running wide open?

Are you at least 20 inches away from the lower unit and prop on the motor?

I have mounted many transducers over the years but this one is giving me all kinds of problems. I have transducer mounting boards on each side. I have a HB 788 transducer on the starboard side and a 898 transducer on the port side. 788 works ok at high speeds. Both transducers are positioned between the rivet rows and have both ducers are slightly tilted back to front. I only run one locator on sonar at a time to avoid cross talk. The 788 is there for a gps. I've had the ducers little as 1/2 inch below the bottom of the boat to 1" below. At the low setting the ducer keeps flipping up.

Default Transducer Mounting Solution

Lower HS ducer by 1/8 " and level it side to side. Right now you do not have it leveled side to side so it does not shoots strait down as it was designed. Raise the SI duce a little as you want to protect it but keep it below the HS ducer. You are not using the regular sonar crystals in the SI transducer as you have a Y cable between the two transducers so keeping it so low will not benefit you. If High speed ducer keeps flipping up put a screw in the tranducer bracket to keep it from flipping up. TAW
