This week ill be upgrading clips and installing the do.it yourself tattle flags. I'll check back in after my trip and see if I have any problems that need.solving. hopefully I will have some.fish pictures to share!
Thanks to everyone who has given me advice.
dwfonline.org has a nice article and pictures on the diy tattle flags and they work great. Personally met the guy that wrote it -nice guy. He also has an article for diy jet diver releases. Just made those yesterday. I didn't have the wire on hand and used some 50# mono and it worked well. good luck

I found one on Ohio fishing where the guy uses rubber bands in leu of the springs. I already have everything done I'm just waiting for my looped wire (used for making musky bucktails) to show up so I can connect the flag to the rear clip.

I like the Church boards because the OEM clips actually hold mono or braid and the rear pin captures to board from getting free and lost and the hassle of turning around with maybe 3 or 5 other lines in the water. Funny, I saw a yellow board floating aimlessly last Friday on Lake Erie, but had 4 lines out and a fish on so didn't retrieve for return to owner. My orange church boards can't escape. I like the flag kit too for reading junk fish hookups.

I actually agree that that part of the system seems better to me but I was hesitant to buy the Church because I read a lot of people complaining about the way they ran especially in rough water.

In rough water I lost one of my yellow boards, but don't recall how well they ran in Great Lakes chop. The Church boards run ok; in 3' chop they do seem to hop a little and they do ride a little low with 3 ounce weights even after shifting weight forward on board. I'm not sure they sell a perfect inline board, at least not at a reasonable price for a little plastic gizmo.

I think you are talking about HetfieldInn on Ohio game fishing, he is on WC as well under the alias of Hombre Robusto. I also use this system and it works very well for me on Erie.

This guy has some really good tutorials and videos on how to use boards. He also shows a different way to use boards without fighting the board. It's under the rigging boards video.

Thanks to all who helped. The first trip was a massive success we boated over 30 walleye yesterday on our trip to Mille Lacs. 95% came on cranks. To be honest we probably could have caught more. There were several times when we didn't even know we had a fish on and were probably pulling it around for a long time. The boards worked in dead calm as well as the 5 footers wr had on the SE side of the lake in the dead afternoon. I will have to work on my tattle flags as they were not working. I either have them set too tight or my power pro wad slipping in the back clip.

If your not doing the trick to make the boards release or whatever, double wrap both the front and back releases and you shouldnt have any problems with the tattle flags. Also maybe try upgrading your tattle kits to perchjerkers kits, he uses a compression spring instead of a extension springs and the adjustability is pretty much infinite.

IMHO take back those board and go get the church boards. I have owned both and there is no additional parts needed on the church boards and as far as running well they have an adjustable weight so you can change the angle it rides at.
