I agree and yes Hutch is very open to helping anglers out....I run into him at the cleaning stations a lot and he seems to be very open with everyone not just clients. And I think if Scott thinks the reports are fair then let all of us that enjoy reading them and keeping up on the bite do that if you don't like the reports nobody is making you read them. Keep up the good work Hutch

Just talked with Hutch at the fish cleaning table at Spring Creek on Monday...Hutch is a great guy. I have known him for years and for him to post updates is fantastic. All you have to do is ask Hutch...he will put you on fish (Not everyone is like that)

I think the guest is a little jealous of Hutch and wishes he was as good as fisherman as hutch!

Yeah-h-h-h. . .here's another vote for Hutch and his good reports. Us "regular" guys need to realize that we're not going to drop in on South Dakota's river fishing and duplicate Hutch's (or Porter's) results. They're out there most days and can follow the bite. That's one of the things that make a Hutch report so valuable: it could eliminate some guesswork for a newby (or seldom-bee) on Oahe (or Sharpe).

I, too, enjoy reading the reports. I have been reading them for a couple years now, and I can't recall Hutch ever using his reports as a way to stir up business. From the sounds of things, he keeps plenty busy as it is.

Hutch, My friends and I look forward to your updates. It's nice to hear how good the bite is and the depth and techniques that are working best. I make 12 to 14 trips up your way each year and appreciate the time spent to gve the reports. Thanks and keep them coming.

Recently I had a couple of somewhat negative reports one of which complained that I wasn't being specific enough on exact areas/spots in my reports, I will address that this way. If I or another web site put that kind of information on the web it leads to too many people fishing the same area's and using the same boat ramps etc. which I think is not good. I also think that most real good anglers are in touch with the fact that one of the biggest part's of walleye fishing is hunting the fish down along with catching/eating them. Most great anglers are looking for depths the fish are in and baits that are working along with general info on the best areas that are putting out the fish. They are likely to find there own fish as part of the sport and would rather fish in area's that have less boat traffic ie why I write reports with general info. As to hyping my own business I thought that is what good business's do and I do not believe that is wrong.

Just got back from oahe. Planned my trip based on comments made on walleye central. Had a guide for 2 days. Caught fish all were between 12 and 15 inch walleye with a few 16 pushing seventeen. A couple of overs we kept but probably should not have based on what I saw. A ton of boats, I have never seen so many boats in one area.
Caught all species of fish. Fried up some catfish. Very good. We all thought it tasted better than the walleye. How does a lake like oahe handle all the fishing pressure.? First time I have been on the water. |
