If you want to keep some fish prior to the tourney keep 3 fish a piece. You never will have more than your two man possesion limit during the tourney as you can only have 5 fish in the box which you have to take to the measure boat when the 5th fish is Kept. As the rules state unless there is a prior approval for releasing the fish which I assume the tounaments get. Just make sure you and your partner only catch 2 or 3 fish each when you fill your well HA!HA!HA!

That's the way it is in Minnesota. If you have a limit of Walleyes in your cooler/freezer you cannot legally fish for Walleyes. Not many people know about the law, but if you think about it for a minute it makes perfect sense.

You do not have to have them in your possession to be counted as part of your daily creel limit. In WY, if you do anything besides immediately release the fish they count as part of your daily limit. So, if you measure and record it, it is the same as if you put it in the box. If you have a daily limit on ice when you do that then you just broke the law. If you catch, record and release a daily limit and you have only one on ice at home, you also just broke the law.
I would guess most CO's would not be that aggressive, but it appears at least one is.

Wyoming is a great place with great waters to fish. The laws are printed very clear in the regulations book. Best thing one can do as a angler is to read it and carry one every time they decide to fish a new body of water. |

Seems to me that tourney anglers should set an example for lawful fishing. Know the rules. In this case, it appears pretty simple, don't put any fish in the freezer. If you want to keep a few, eat them that night. It would not be good public realtions for the general fishing population to read or hear about tourney anglers in violation of fishing rules.

So as I read it WY says your tournament fish that you take to the scales and are released are part of your possession limit does that mean forever?? A fish in my freezer is no longer in my possession after I eat it so how do you get it out of your possession if it’s swimming in some lake. All you guys fishing in tourneys in WY have been way over your limit for years. Calm down I’m only stirring the pot but it’s an interesting question
