9 days from today we are heading to Mille Lacs for our first trip up there. We do have a guide scheduled for a couple days. Can anyone give any information that could help us on our trip? We are staying at a lakehouse near Isle, MN. Thanks for any help at all, JackSalmon

Just got back from Millie Lacs. We got 30 to 50 eyes a day (3 to 4 keepers) on the edges of mud flats. We mainly used bottom bouncers with a 6 to 8 ft leader with 1 bead, and red #6 hook with large leachs. Drifting about.4to.7 mph. also used slip bobbers on the edge of the flats or north shore line. We wanted to run the kicker for awhile so we trolled cranks on the north shore at 15 to 20ft 1.8 to 2.2 mph. We picked up 3 in an hour trolling! Last week was excellent fishing on the mud flats! We got lots of 24-to27 fish! Best trip I have had up there in a long time!

I haven't been on Mille Lacs yet this year, will be there in August. However, I've heard lots of reports of very good walleye action. Live-bait rigs are what I've heard are most productive, but I've also spoke with anglers who were using spinners, slip-bobbers, and trolling crankbaits. On tops of flats when the bite is really on, along the side of the flats when the bite slows. Also, don't forget about suspending walleyes a good distance away from the flats.
Enjoy your trip, let us know how you do. Best Fishes, Bob Jensen |

Enjoy your week on Mille Lacs, and yes, try really hard to make it through the week. Let us know how you do. I'll be on Kabetogama next week for a couple of days.

Would appreciate any tips for catching other species (Pike & Smallmouth in particular) on the SE portion of the lake. If the eyes are not biting when we go up next week, it would be very nice to have some alternatives, especially for my buddy who has not had even a bite in his last two trips "up north"!).
