This report is for Glendo reservoir since nobody else wants to write reports I figured I would put one out there since I fished it this weekend. First off we stayed at Sandy Beach campground; this was a great campground everything worked out really well not very crowded at all. We fished Saturday morning at muddy bay fished really well; we fished at a weedy point that dropped off into 15 ft. we were throwing Flicker shad number sevens in perch color and rainbow colored. People were scattered all over the bay we really couldn't see what everybody was throwing but looks like a lot of people were doing the same as well as live bait rigging with leaches or crawlers. Throwing Flicker shad’s seem to work well for us. We ended up landing several fish using this technique. After going in for lunch we went back out and fish the point separating Muddy Bay from the main Lake this is a rocky point and we ended up catching several more walleyes pulling slow death with a 3 ft. leader nothing of any size. The bite was pretty tough mainly because you couldn't figure out whether you had a rock or a fish. Once you figured it out the fishing was pretty good. Sunday morning we went back over to muddy bay again tossing Flickr shads we ended up with for fish that morning .we fish till 8:30 in the morning my buddy's son caught his first walleye on a Flickr shad, that was exciting and my buddy caught a 24 inch walleye along with several shorts as well and a few keepers. Here are a few pictures from our outing.

Looks like you had a good bite going! 24"er shoulda been thrown back tho! with the 15" minimum its going to be harder and harder to find those 20+" fish! no reason to keep anything bigger then 20" just saying.....glad you had fun, and nice to see a few reports come out west!
thanks for sharing |

Keepnfish.....this is why people dont do fish reports anymore.. if a guy spends thousands of $$ on fishing equipment and wants to keep a 24" walleye so be it. if you dont like it keep it to your self!!! I bet based on your name you prob keep your share of big fish!! but you will prob lie and say you dont..

I think the reason why there are few Glendo reports is because there is no need for one. You go find a fishy looking spot, tie on a walleye bait, then catch fish. Its that easy. No one is gonna share their spots on the internet where the big girls hang.
It's the best walleye fishery west of the Great Lakes. Yep, I said it. |

Yes, Glendo is a VERY GOOD lake to fish in recent years and I hope it lasts. But giving a little bit of info on it won't make the Eye population up there come "crashing down" from overharvest. |

jimirjr, my point wasn't to be critical of your comment about the lack of reports, but rather point out how easy it is to catch fish there. You can go to the dam, whiskey, custer, airport, muddy, etc and troll, pitch, slip, drag bait, etc and get into fish.
The real challenge will come in the next few weeks when the warm water and milfoil turn it into a deep water game. As for a population crash, I have no doubt that the low water this year has put a huge dent in the population, but that has little to do with sharing information. A biologist up there once told me that on average, 1/3 of the walleye population is harvested every year. |

I've been fishing Glendo since 1984 and the quality of the fishery has gone downhill due to the amount of fishing pressure, but the quantity of walleye has gone up.
When we were fishing the Wyoming Walleye Circuit back in the early 90's when it first started, everyday someone would bring in at least a 10 pounder and it took well over 50 pounds to win it, or sometimes just to cash a check. These days it's hard to find 5 pounders....and it's because of the sheer number of people that have been fishing that reservoir for years and years without any stocking by the Wyoming Game and Fish. That lake has always been a self sufficient fishery...and a great one at that. Wyoming FINALLY put a size limit on the walleye.....so at least they are now trying to manage it....and it's about time as far as I'm concerned. But, quantity over quality.....is another argument for another day. People go fishing for different reasons. Sometimes I will catch and release, other times I will give them a grease release....I like to eat walleye too. I was up there last weekend and it was brutal hot so I beach partied quite a bit but I would put an hour or two into pulling cranks back in airport bay in 20' of water and weed through a dozen fish to get a couple keepers for supper each night. I was pulling #5 clown shad raps at 120 feet behind Offshore boards and staying in that 20' range because the weeds get really bad if you get much shallower. There were boats inside of me so they had to be working the tops of the weeds and they were catching fish too....and some weeds now and then. I didn't want to work that hard ![]() Lots of people were working the mouth of muddy on the west shore and they were jigging ..... most of them anchored off of the points. If you like jigging....work that area. If you prefer trolling, try airport bay. (if it's crowded it's polite to keep your boards in a little tighter to allow others the opportunity to fish too) You will catch fish...... Last edited by Golden; 06-27-2012 at 08:46 AM. |
