Default 300 verado vs 300 xs

I am trying to decide between the 2 motors, Xs louder but more fuel efficent and lighter, but less warranty,
Vrod quieter but heavy, i sure would like to lighten up the back end 130 lbs since vantage and 9.9 will be installed.
?? will there be any speed difference between the two?
And hole shot?
How reliable are the 300 xs?

If you want a quiet outboard, buy the Verado. If you want better performance, fuel economy, hole shot and lighter outboard pick the XS or E-Tec.

IMO, the XS has a shorter warranty, it will most likely be faster, and the gear-case will not be as durable as a consumer would like to have. Getting told the gear case is made for racing and not made to push a big heavy walleye boat around won't satisfy you - right??

Get the 250,300 Vrod, or the 250 Pro XS, I'd discourage the 300 XS. Don't do it just to get 50 horse more than the 250 Pro XS.

I disagree with the previous poster's comment to consider the etec for better fuel economy. Take a look at the data first - the Vrod is a better fuel economy motor in every rpm range except WOT in the 250 class. All I'm saying here is - take a look at the published data first.

The 250 Pro XS is a good performing motor, and getting lighter is an understandable goal.

Isn't a 250 ProXS closer to the 275hp mark?? I thought they were running pretty hot? You would get the light weight and performance of a 2 stroke and still be able to get a decent warranty too!

There is no such thing as good fuel economy on anything over 200 hp with six cylinders no matter what motor you are looking at. What is the difference in price between the two motors ?

The 250 ProXS is pushing the 272hp mark and the 300XS is right about 300 so I would go with the 250 ProXS with the better warranty and torquemaster LU. On my boat the 300 only pushes a few mph faster then the 250 so on a walleye boat it would be negligible. The 300 XS is great on go fast boats with the sportmaster LU.

Back in 2006/07 I ran a pro xs it was light weight ran strong but was way to noisy even ideling. In mid year went with DF250 Suzuki it is so quiet at idle it's hard to hear it.

Have you considered the 300hp Suzuki 4 stroke?
It is a very highly rated motor.

Default 300

I had a suzuki 140 and a suzuki 175, both great motors. When i was looking to get a 300 i looked hard at the Suzuki but couldn't ignore the verado. Ended up with a 300 verado pro and couldn't be happier. this motor is very quiet and doesn't do that bad on fuel if you stay out of the throttle, which is hard for me to do. If you are getting a $60,000 to $70,000 boat i doubt if a few extra bucks at the pump is going to slow you down.

I concur with Gale, I have a 250Pro Vrod and love it. Very quiet, fast, decent milage for a big engine on a 620. And the things some don't realize is the "fly by wire" controls for steering and throttle......very smooth. Lastly, I don't have to pump the fuel bulb! There are a lot of great motors out.......most of the people who have Vrods love them.

Regards,
Gabe
