Can you raed this? Olny 55 plepoe out of 100 can.
The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in what oerdr the ltteres in a word are, the olny iproamtnt tihng is that the frsit and last ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can still raed it whotuit a pboerlm. This is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the word as a wlohe. Azanmig huh? Yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt! So, there you have it. Spelling is not as important as the message being delivered. ![]() Juls

I've suggested in other threads that if the writer wants to be understood, it's worthwhile to spend the time that it takes to proofread a message and determine whether others will understand the message as it is written, or if it could be written more clearly.
I can pull many examples from this website and other websites of messages that leave the reader scratching his or her head, wondering what it was the writer intended to say. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar all enter into it. All that being said, I'm not going to waste my time and offend others by criticizing specific posts. The "preview post" feature is a really valuable one, but don't always trust Spellcheck. For instance, Spellcheck highlights the word "criticizing" and tells me that it should be spelled with an "s" rather than a "z." Here's one of the situations where it's not going to matter as far as communicating a message, but I believe the "s" may be used on the other side of the pond (Great Britain), but not in the good ol' US of A. |

Like using "Ideal" instead of "Idea" "Haul" instead of "Hull" that kind of thing.

That is a good laugh! It reminds me of trying to grade student lab reports! (and asking them to edit!)

Spell check is nice, however, for those members that access the site from work computers, the spell check plugin for IE sometimes isn't allowed.
I try to throw my message into word (or the like) and spell check that way, but in most cases I don't care that much about the spelling. I agree with perchjerker on the content and wording making most of the impact. |

Each of the words in the original example has all the correct letters; just in the wrong order. Try taking out a few letters or substituting incorrect ones and see if you can still read it! I don't think that example has any correlation to spelling.
