What prop and what hole are you running? I am currently in the 4th hole and running a tempest23. I have seen 58mph running mid 5000's for rpm's. I am having a hard time finding the sweet spot and she blows out in heavier seas.
I ran the 21 tempest and had 53.5mph @ around 5900 rpms/...better hole shot and a little better bow control... Any suggestions? Do I need to drop the motor one hole? Any other 621 / 250 pro xs guys out there??? What is your set-up? Thanks in advance.... Last edited by LLEYER; 06-25-2012 at 08:54 AM. |

Can you see the cavitation plate while on plane? If you can but it is getting splashed by water then you are probably good. I would get that 21 tempest worked by a prop shop, and have a bit of cupping added to stop the blow out. Should put you around 54-55mph. What is the limit on that engine?

the cavatation plate is above the water level almost an inch....

Is that at plane? So no water at all is hitting it?
If that is the case you should go down a hole. Rough guess would be 5 inches below the pad. |

Yes....wide open and trimmed up.... the average water line is below cavitation plate about an inch.

Hopefully you get some others to chime in on the motor location as many have this combo.
Have you hit the rev limiter with your current setup? It sounds like you need to drop one hole. |

Wondering what kind of weight you are carrying? I have a 2010 with a 250 Pro XS. Kicker, full gear half tank of fuel I have found the 19 tempest to be my best prop option. 54 mph @ 5800 RPM's. I can pick up another mph with a 21 tempest but drop RPM's to 5450. I also run a atlas jack plate and 4 big odyessey batteries.

I am probably on the heavy side.... 5 batteries and a kicker... fully loaded with bass and walleye tackle.
