ranger 621 with a yamaha 250 hpdi
for some reason this rig hates transom savers; i've broken 3 on the last return trip from canada i broke the last saver; so i called my local dealer and asked if i could get some 'transom saver for dummies' training and he recommended the mywedge i was pretty skeptical at first; did some research and it appears that the transom isn't the part that will be harmed but rather the tilt section of the lift is what can be damaged by the trailering picked up a pair of mywedge's; first trip was last weekend; the motor is moving less with the mywedge's then it ever did with the transom saver i'm happy |

Steiny,
The other option is to not use any sort of transom saver. Your motor is designed to support itself on the transom of your boat. Your transom is designed to carry the weight of your motor - down or up. So, why add extra things to your rig? REW |

I've used one for years. It works.

hot runr guy is spot on
"if" you were able to trailer the boat with the motor in the "trim" position i think you'd be fine; but when you are in "tilt" there definately isn't enough support additionally, when the last transom saver died i had to trailer about 200 miles with nothing; that motor was bouncing around like crazy back their; definately not an optimal solution on my t8 kicker; i don't use anything to support the motor; the built in lock on the transom is plenty through my research i found that etec's don't need any support; those engines are built to carry their own load |

You said a pair. I thought that 250s were only suppose to use one on the port side because of the grease fitting on the starboard side. if you have the fitting on the starboard they say not to use it there because it will break the fitting. I started using one on my F250 and like the conveinence and not rubbing the paint on the motor. I do think that it makes the motor sit to low though. I have left a message with the website two times and no return message about the proper my wedge for my boat. I noticed it sat lower on the boat when trimmed down to it. I have never had an issue with my boats pulling into my driveway and the first time I tried to back it in with the my wedge on it I rubbed the skeg on the drive. I like trailering and the convience but I am extra careful on pulling into and out of a drive and now don't lower or raise the motor all the way until I am on the street before backing in or pulling out of my own driveway.

My 90hp OB has a heavy metal tab for trailering. But I use the power tilt/trim to pull the bracket down against the locked lever. The OB isn't quite all the way up when that tab is used.

BroadwayBill,
on my engine i don't have a zerk impacting the wedge so i'm running two per the recommendation of the dealer; he stated that the site says you only need a pair on the 300's but they've seen to many of the larger hpdi's flopping around when only using a single personally; i think its how the trim/tilt on the hpdi's is setup which is causing me the issues with the transom savers; it seems to be 'loose' vs the trim i had on the optimax's or the vmax's i've had in the past |

I recently had to get my transom welded at the bottom. The cause, not sure, from the outboard bouncing on the transom? That would be my guess after 17 or so years. I pulled the outboard, major deal, I pulled the plywood, very major deal. Plywood looked solid, but was 15 years old and not sealed and showed signs of water exposure because of leaking at crack. So replaced and sealed that with epoxy. Had to reseal all holes and remount both outboards, very, very major deal. Would the mywedge have prevented that? Who knows, but it surely wouldn't have hurt.
