Made a quick trip to Kabetogama Lake in northern Minnesota this week. Got to drive home in that big rain near Cloquet MN.
Fished on Kab Tuesday morning with fishing guide and friend Travis Carlson. Travis is a transplanted guy from Iowa. Fished mostly reefs in the 25-30 foot range, Roach Rigs with leeches were best. We had to try several reefs to find the biters. All the reefs had fish, but not all of those fish wanted to bite. Minor cold front was going through. Caught plenty of walleyes that we could have kept, also caught a good number of 22-25 inchers. Bronze hook was best,,tried colored hooks, they weren't as good. Half ounce sinkers. Kab is one of my favorite lakes anywhere, great fishing, great scenery, not too far away. Best Fishes, Bob Jensen |

Bob, Just got back yesterday from Kab as well. We did very well on Sunday drifiting lindy rigs with medium leeches in wind blown bays, but Monday and particularily Tuesday we caught them off wind blown points using either spin / glow in chartruse or firetiger and Mack's slow death with smile blades. No smallmouth to speak of though.
Great place to spend some time though, however the roads Wedenday A.M. were mostly washed out Virgina City and south, even drove through water on I-35 south of Carlson. |
