I recently had the opportuntity to fish out of the new backtroller boat in a local tournament. The boat used was a preproduction model rigged with a 75 hp e-tec. It was rigged with an 18 gallon fuel tank and three batteries.
When I first saw the pictures of the boat online, I was a little skeptical of the storage in the boat. The compartment in the front of the boat looked small and didn't look like it could hold much gear. Each rod locker looked narrow and difficult to access. After loading our tournament gear in the boat, I was extremely surprised and very impressed with the storage space. The rod lockers (8' port 9' starboard) were very wide and held many rods. One really nice feature of the rod lockers were intergrated tackle storage systems that could be easily accessed from the drivers seat. The starboard locker has tackle storage right behind the seat which is in a perfect location. The front storage area in the bow is very large. It has a cool design that goes below the front livewell for additional space. One feature of the boat that is unique to the tiller market is removable casting decks in the front and rear of the boat. This makes the boat very versatile and a great fit for the multiple species anglers. I really like the removable deck in the rear as it provided room for the driver seat to spin 360 degrees without hitting my knees. With a name like backtroller boats, I expected it to track very well. It lived up to its name and did a great job in foward (trolling cranks) and reverse (pulling blades). It also drifted well (meaning that it drifted perpendicular to the wind). I thought the boat lived up to its name and performed above expectations. Overall, I was impressed with the boat. A cool aspect of backtroller boats is that they can be customized to meet to the customers desires. It was fun talking with the owner about all of the different configurations possible for the rig. Just thought I would pass along my experience from the weekend! |

The 75 e-tech pushed the boat well. It had plently of power and got out of the hole pretty well. I never noticed any smoke from the motor and it ran most of the day.

K-Line - It was great fishing with you and testing out the Backtroller boat. I would've liked to have seen what she would have done in solid 2-3 footers... Overall, it performed quite similar to my "old" 1785BT YC. I would have to agree with you on the extra storage in the rod lockers. Should be a great boat for the multi-specie anglers with the deck options. See you on the water!

When I watched the video on their website, the young man in the back of the boat said his last name was Schuelte, is that the same name as the guy who used to own YarCraft?

Looks like an interesting setup? Hopefully they can add some color? The all white is a bit much!!!
