Default Heading to WI

Am leaving to the Minocqua WI area from Ohio for a couple of weeks on Sunday to do some fishing and will be staying on Lake Tomahawk. I am somewhat familiar with the lake and the other lakes on the chain but not as a fisherman. Any help you can give would greatly be appreciated. I will be targetting walleye and would like to do a little musky fishing. I know the lake is a different animal when compared to Erie and most other Ohio lakes and would like to eliminate any wasted time on the water if possible. Would also like to experiance some quality food so if you have a place in mind I would love to check it out. Thanks for the help. B.C.

The 8' breakline has always given me the best luck in that flowage.

Muskies usually aren't a problem.

If you fish the bridge by Bosaki's expect company, plenty of it. Find some humps and dont be afriad to go shallow. Bring minnows with you if you can keep them alive.

It is a good place to catch bass if you get bored fishing too.

RE dining.....

Blink Bonnie's, on the way to St. Germaine - MUST DO. out-STANDING steaks and ribs and melt-in-your-mouth hash browns. No reservations so get there early or be prepared to wait.

Marty's Place North - an old-fashioned supper club

Mama's - great Italian

Polecat and Lace - tasty Bloody Marys

Jacobi's in Hazelhurst - exquisite food - pricey, but YUMMMMM !!!

Bon Apetit'

(note to self - don't be answering questions like this BEFORE dinner !!!)

Find any busy tavern and pick yourself up a fish fry. You won't find a better one. When they ask for potatoes, order 1/2 n 1/2, and don't forget a whiskey Old Fashion Sweet. You'll thank me later, I promise.

Stop in at Packerland Plus, look for Rick and tell him, Pete's no good sob, Vikings fan son in law from MN sent you. He won't charge you much extra. He's a good friend of the family. You won't find a nice group of folks.

I do remember eating the all you can eat walleye at Fibbers in St. Germain and it was excellent. You could get them deep fried or broiled and I had the broiled. Remember them having potatoe pancakes as a side dish and they also were all you couldn eat. Can't wait to get back. B.C.

You might also try fishing the willow flowage. It's about a 15min drive west of minocqua. I'd suggest purchasing a lake map as it's a good sized lake with many islands and hazards. I'd also suggest you try night fishing on lake tomahawk, I've done very well using slip bobbers for walleyes. I'd also recommend you stop by Rollie and Helen's musky shop in Hazelhurst, their tackle selection has to be second to none.

As for food, I'd suggest pub & prime on hwy 70 in St Germain. It's known for their prime rib, but the friday fish fry is the best in the area.
One more spot is little bohemia lodge in Manitowish waters. It's a really neat place with a lot of history (john dillengers hide out) that has very good food, great nothwoods ambiance, and a really outstanding bar.
I'm a local and have eaten at most places in the area, and these are our favorites.

Enjoy your stay.
