Default Keeping Crawlers in the Boat

I have 500 crawlers I am taking up to Canada this week. How do you guys keep crawlers in your boat? I have a the big container they came in but would rather take something smaller in the boat and just wondering what you guys do?

I use two of those small styrofoam boxes with the two elastic openings. I have a small cooler they both fit in with a couple of ice packs. When the fishin gets real good you can leave them out of the cooler for quite awhile without losing any crawlers. It is the one in the center of the picture in the web page below. You can find just the little white boxes about anywhere. There are yellow ones out on the market that look similiar to these. Do no buy those. The elastic part is on the inside of the box and they are a pain in the a**. I put 4 dozen in each box.

Another option, is a new product from Frabil. This one has a top compartment, and a bottom compartment. Ice is placed in one, to keep the other cool. It works, but probably no better than they styrofoam one suggested above. I've got both, and really don't have a preference for one over the other.

Be aware that you can't take anything with dirt into Canada so nightcrawlers have to be in something like Buss bedding. It would be a bummer to lose your crawlers at the border.

I just use small plastic tubs and keep them in the cooler.

Here is the perfect container for crawlers:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ndingMethod=rr

This 6 can cooler is a soft side cooler with a hard plastic box in the bottom of the cooler. The insides of the cooler are vinyl and easy to clean.

There is a top section with a separate zipper opening. If you get the freeze packs that fit, you can get a couple and keep them in the freezer. Each morning, put a freshly frozen freeze pack in the top section of the cooler. Put bedding and as many crawlers as you are going to use for the day.

If you don't have a freeze pack, just take a zip lock bag and put ice in it and put the ice filled bag into the top compartment of the cooler.
The zip lock bag keeps the melting ice from getting water everywhere in the cooler.

While you are at it, pick up an extra one for your lunch. You can put in 6 cans, and have room in the top for a sandwich or two, or ice.

When you are done with the cooler for crawlers, remove the insert, wash the insert and inside of the cooler and you have a nice personal cooler for use in the boat or when traveling or just want to bring something with you.

I have several of these personal sized coolers that I use when traveling to hold cameras, cell phone, small tools etc. Very nice and convenient.

Be safe

I've had a keep cool worm box for years and I love it. you clean the worms off with water, put them in the middle compartment that is accessible and there is a space for ice all along the outside of it. Replace the ice daily and the worms will last 3-4 days easy when fishing and there is no mess in the boat.

You will want two containers. One for your stash and one for taking fishing.

The boxes that open on the top and bottom work great. Only down side is if it is in a cooler and water pools in the bottom it will seap into the container if the container is sitting on the bottom.

Default Hm-m-m-m-m. . .

Gonna have to try a couple of those Ozark 6-canners if the local Walmart carries them.

I have the same one, and like it alot also, but I don't think Hagen's makes those anymore. I didn't care for the looks of their new model.

This what I use. I put an ice pack on the bottom, fill with bedding and whatever crawlers im gonna use for the day and then put an ice pack on top. The little flip top lid on the main lid works great when were jigging with half pieces of crawlers. Pinch crawler in half and then drop in the tray and close lid. Keeps the half crawlers out of the rest of them and no worries about putting crawler pieces back in the main tub of crawlers when I get home.
