Angry Verado 175 quits after 1 hr run time

Bought a new boat last friday with a verado 175xl and after 30 minutes on the water the engine beeped 6 times and quit. Lifted the cowl and found almost all engine oil pooled up in the motor. Trolled back to dock, loaded up the boat, and headed to the nearest mercury dealer. Replaced oil, ran engine, and witnessed oil "pouring" out the back side of the oil filter where the assenbly bolts up to the oil fitering system.. Anyone else have this problem?

If it was new, then quality control sure blew it.

I don't think people are trying to be condescending but you have a major issue with your new motor. I don't think you'll find that a common problem by asking on here and wouldn't try to find solace in finding someone who indeed did .... although very unlikely. Take it back, tell them to fix it ...... move on when it's returned to you.

I'd write down the serial # of the motor and make it clear I want a different motor, not this one repaired. But, that's just me.

Zander,
Really, it is very likely a very minor problem like a loose bolt or a blown gasket.

Good luck with the fix.

Please post what is found wrong with the motor so all of us can learn.

Thanks much

Took it back to the dealer today and was told that Mercury believes it is a casting problem. It is in the shop to verify this and if true thn a new motor is coming Tusday.

Zander,
It sounds like excellent Merc service and dealer service as well.

P.S.
Over the years, I have heard various stories of different brand motors - both outboard as well as vehicle motors having casting issues. The issues generally show up fairly quickly after new motor delivery.
It happens very infrequently, but when it does, the manufacturer has always stood behind it from all of the different episodes that I have heard about.

Today I was told the a Mercury Rep stated that they want a couple gaskets replaced and return the motor. They said "it will probably be all right". I threw a fit. Threatened to leave the boat in their yard. Called Mercury directly to complain, stiill waiting for a reply.

Zander,
Why did you throw a fit.
If the motor blew a gasket, replace the gasket and enjoy the motor.
