Okay before I lift it, I wanted your opinions. From what I know, learned on this site, this motor is too low. Yesterday I could barely touch 6000 rpm, most time 5800-5900. Plan on lifting two holes. Two guys here run there rig in the same holes I am going to. Going from second from top to second from bottom, or raising two.
Hang on having trouble with pictures! |

Are those pics with boat on plane and running in the upper portion of Max throttle?

Yes sorry I'd had that in a post but lost it trying to post from iPhone. Those pictures were about 5500 rpm trim at 8 of ten on gauge. I can trim all the way to 10 without venting. Boat was about 45 MPH in picture. My dad was driving, and he has,t driven a boat in 40 years other than a tiller, I set it up and handed him the wheel. He loved it by the way.

...and tell us where the cav plate on the motor is relative to the bottom of the boat with motor trimmed so cav plate is parallel to bottom. Your motor looks too low from the pics, but without a measurement its hard to tell where the cav plate is. On a 45 mph boat the plate should be something like 1 inch above the bottom for a start- and then you keep going up until the venting becomes unacceptable, or until you need a better prop. The suggestions you have from others with the same rig are probably a good guideline also- but each rig is different.
Also- at what trim position does the boat actually have its best speed- I can trim my motor to 10 without venting- but it reaches best top speed at around 6. Doug |

At cruising speed with ideal trim the cavitation plate should be visible and skimming the surface. Try and look up this subject on the verado owners forum where they have the best demonstration. The higher the set up the higher performing prop required.

Been to verado club also, I think it needs to come up. Trimming above 6-8 doesn't increase speed any, nor does it increase rpm anything noticeable, maybe 50,100. Still below Max 6400. I don't need to Max out but want to be able to run in the reccomended range at least and that isn't happening with the 19 tempest. I have a 18" power tech 4 blade on its way this week to try out. Looking for a few more rpm, low speed planning and handling. Top speed not that important, but if it comes with changes all the better.

That motor needs to come up. You should be able to see the plate completely when running wide open and at your best trim position.
