Default Walleye/Muskie Boat

Hey all,

I'm looking at buying a 16 or 17 foot boat for 100% fishing use, and as you may have deciphered from this thread title, mainly fishing for walleyes and muskies. I'm just wondering what I should be looking for in such a boat. I usually fish lakes anywhere from smaller 400 acre lakes to anywhere near about 4,000 acres. I welcome any comments regarding boat type, motors, storage, etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

acafisherman19

Ranger 1760, the best trailer made for 1 person to load and unload, great fishing platform for both types of fishing and the Ranger ride and quality.

Totally agree, if you could swing it go for the 1860.

Thumbs up

X2 for the 1860. Easy to load by 1 person and a Suzuki 175 sips gas.

if it were me...
i'd be looking hard at the tiller rigs (my first walleye rig was a 16ft tiller and it was awesome for fishability)

something like: http://www.rangerboats.com/models.cfm?gid=35&mid=6567 or http://www.alumacraft.com/2012-model...ies/175-sport/

boat control was super easy and load/unloading was a total breeze

For fitting all your muskie gear in a 16-17ft boat I would look at a tiller. A lot of great options in glass and aluminum. Lund, alumicraft, ranger, skeeter....the list goes on. I have a lund pro guide and the casting platforms in back and front are great for muskie fishing and it's an awesome walleye boat too. Just look at the layouts and see with would fit your style of fishing best. With the smaller lakes you're fishing I'd put layout #1.

I am a bit partial to the Ranger 617 myself, it has done a great job for both walleye and muskie fishing for me.

Depending on how much you wanna spend and if you prefer console or tiller...... If I bought a boat strickly for fishing walleyes and muskys I would definately buy a tiller. There is tons of room and imo much better for backtroling along breaklines. So tiller catagory I would look at the lund proguides. Console I would look at either the 1775 impacts or 1775 pro v...again dependind on what you wanna spend.

It depends on how much you want to spend, and if you want aluminum or fiberglass.

If you have a lot of money to spend and want fiberglass, the Ranger 620 would be an awesome rig.

If you have a lot of money to spend and want aluminum, the Lund Predator 2010 would be an awesome rig.

If you don't want to spend that much but want a great walleye/muskie platform, the Crestliner Fishhawk 1850 is awesome, I have one, and it probably has the biggest casting decks of any 18-19 foot boat made, and still has plenty of open floor space.

If you don't want to spend that much but want a fiberglass boat, I don't know what to tell you.

I always suggest trying to find something used, you will save a ton of money on price, and in Minnesota you don't have to pay sales tax on a boat bought from a private party.
