Our lake in garrison is up 27". Went up Thursday to save our dock. I woke Saturday with what I thought were mosquito bites and realized by Sunday they were chiggers? Any remedies?
By the way, best fishing I've experienced in seven years? I thought the lake level would have adversely effected the lake. |

Go to drugstore or Walmart and pick up a small bottle of Chiggerex. It is a paste salve and put on liberally. Fast, soothing and will stop your tendency to scratch your hide off. Expect about a week of this aggravation.

I have had to deal with chigger bites often. I fouind that trying various cures or simply leaving them alone always had the same result. In about ten days they are gone. Nothing that I ever tried would speed up the cure.
The bites can be avoided if you know you are going to be exposed to them. Jack |

Where are the bites? I'm not sure if they are the same thing we called chiggers, but we usually got them from working in the garden. Especially picking raspberries. They would cause red welts generally near the waist. Itch like crazy. Our standard remedy was to paint them with clear nail polish and let it dry. It took away the itching and in a couple of days the welt would be gone.

If it is chiggers that is what my mom used to do when I was a kid, put a dab of fingernail polish on them. I never tried it on swimmers itch though. Calimine lotion also takes away the itch.

I have been dealing with them as well. The kind you get on land. Big red bites that itch terribly. I can stop the itch temporarily with cortizone but only time heals them. I hate these things but at least better than poison ivy.

Best you can do is use something to take away the itch. The damage (bite) has already been done and offending critter is dead. We deal with them every year and other than prevention (Deep Woods Off or like product), there is nothing we have found that will cure the bite.
I'd tell you about my two sons who built a fort in the wet leaves early one summer but the story makes grown men wince and cry out

I'm an old Louisiana boy and we'd get them while picking blackberries as kids.
This is what my Mom used to do also. |
