For the amount of trauma that spindle has gone thru it is probably bent or weakened. It is very hard to change just the spindle because it is welded in. To cut out the old one an weld in a new one and get it perfectly alined would cost way more than just replacing the whole axel. Wiredog

pretty much sums it up. Boat axles take a beating, little suspension on them, big pot holes @ highway speeds, high heat from asphalt then the constant dunking in the lake.

New axle, bearings, seals and bearing buddies if you do not have them should not be much more than 300-400 if you do all the work.

Shipping is not overly priced either.

Default Bad Spindle

From my days in the trucking industry the inner bearing race(around the spindle of the bearing) DOES NOT MOVE ON THE SPINDLE. The Outer ring rotates around the race in the hub. Back in the day we would ping up the spindle with a punch chisile to keep it from turning or put locktie on the spindle (inside bearing only) to keep it from rotating on the spindle and thereby keeping it from burning up the spindle. Hope this helps. Kramer

Kind of the figure I had in mind when I was going thru the same thing. I ended up getting my axle, complete with hubs, bearings, and all assembled and ready to install on the trailer direct from Karavan for $230 shipped to my door. The whole thing took me and a buddy all of 30 minutes to install.

That price also included new bottom support plates and new hardware and U bolts.

There's several places to try, here's a couple

http://www.karavantrailers.com/parts_store.cfm

Karavan can build you whatever you want as well.

There looks to be some fairly deep grooves cut in the shoulder where the inner seal rides also. just sayin Wiredog
