Question Hit Rock-Repair Dinged Prop?

I was unfortunate to have hit a rock this past weekend while idling slowly and luckily did very little damage to the prop, but the edges of the prop have incurred some burrs on the ends of the blades that are roughed up some and could be filed down. Would using a dremel tool to smooth out the burrs be doable? The rest of the prop is in fine condition and i'm not noticing any other trouble using the motor, other then i do feel a bit of vibration and wonder if that is from the dings in the prop?

Thanks.

Default Fix it right

Is it an aluminum prop? If so bring it to a reputable local prop shop and have them fix it the right way. You could do damage to your lower unit if you run the boat with the vibration, which is most likely caused by the damaged prop. Usually it's pretty cheap to have an aluminum prop repaired, should be less than $50 if it's not to bad.

If it's a stainless prop I would recommend the same thing, but it will cost you a little more to get it fixed.

Eyes,
I would just take the prop off.
Put the prop on an anvil and use a sledge to hamer out any overbends of the prop. Then, just use a file to smooth off any burrs.

A file will do a straighter job than a dremel tool.

Since it was a light hit, it should only take you a few minutes.

I would send it off for repair and replace it. When you get it back you will have a spare...

Depending on the size you're looking at about $45-$60 to repair it.

Get it repaired if you feel a vibration, your only going to cause more damage by not getting it done right. Go to www.nmpa.net to find a local credified expert.
