Default Looking at houses, and am very annoyed... why do they do this

Every three stall garage i look at online/in person the third stall is 2-3 feet shorter than the other two.... Why do they do that? I mean every one.

Where I live there is a provision in the zoning code which limits the size of the garage facade. It's purely for cosmetic reasons - the city thinks that a broad three car garage front is unattractive.

To avoid this restriction builders set back the third stall to break up the facade.

also adds sq footage to the inside which increases the sale price. My old house the 3rd stall was deeper but more narrow but we built it vs a spec. Made a good area for extra shelving etc.

Not mine. I'm a builder, ALL my 3rd car garages are 34' deep with a 10' wide 8' high door. And I have one for sale too. I do it just in case I have to move into one of them.

As stated, purely cosmetic. Ours is the same way.

I really want to know why in this day and age with large vehicles new garages are built with a 16' door? What a PITA. We didn't build the house, but it's only 4 years old. Our new neighbors are building across the street, and on my suggestion, he put in a 18' door. He'll thank me later.

Our 9' door just houses the yard tractor and kids toys/bikes

In support of PCDOC's love of the 18' garage door...

We've had a wheelchair-bound family member for near 30 years. I can tell you the difference between a 16' and 18' garage door is whether you can get a wheelchair between the cars. My current garage is 26'x26', 18' door.

and I'll bet that every doorway is at least 36", eh? Even a walker is a PITA with 28 or 30" bathroom doors.

Same here on depth, I went 18' x 36' deep on third stall. Every time I made the garage bigger I just had to make the kitchen bigger so spouse had no problem with the big garage. And yes, 18 x 8 main door is great too. We somehow got the small door order screwed up and it is only a 9 x 8 and I didn't realize it until too late. I am ready to rip that sucker out and go 10. Only 4 inches of clearance for my Lund on the trailer wheels. I'm not that good at backing in so end up using the main stall during summer for boat.

City home built buy city builders......all who have no life outside of the city. That third midget stall is great for a crotch rocket or golf cart.

Upsets me greatly as well. My house has that stupid little stall. Pretty much useless.

In our search for a new home we are looking for a nice lot with a 2 stall and I will build a real garage for a man and his toys.
