Default Yamaha guys

So I use synthetic oil in my motor as I believe it provides superior protection to conventional oil. I'm wondering if any of you guys use synthetics in your lower unit, if so what do you use? I am currently just using Mercury Marine 90wt gear oil, any synthetic alternatives out there?

Trevor,
admittedly, this article from BWB has some age to it, but a good read nonetheless. http://www.bwbmag.com/output.cfm?id=1891729

Thanks for the link, Funny enough I had just finished reading that article after finding it via a Google search. May I ask what you use in your lower unit?

Since the 75hp Optimax on the boat I just sold was still under warranty, I used the Mercury-spec lube.

In the last 3-4 boats I've always used Amsoil lower unit grease. Never had any issues with it.

X2 Amsoil synthetic lower unit gear lube.

Plus, it doesn't stink the place up when you change it!

Alright, I will try the Amsoil stuff when I do my service at the end of the season. Like I said currently I'm running Castrol Syntec 10w40 in the crankcase and the Mercury brand 90w in my lower unit.

I use Amsoil severe gear lubes in mine and the wifes truck and have for several years. I have a dealer close by so getting it isn't an issue. Thanks guys
