Hi guys,
Just purchased a 2002 Pro-v IFS with a 200hp yamaha four stroke and was wonder what the best prop and motor placement is on this rig??? The prop that came with it is a 21" Mirage and the first time i had it in the water this morning it ran 42mph GPS @5200rpm, The motor is up one hole off the transom... I'm looking for best performance and Good top end out of it... The Guy I bought it from said that it did about 52mph @ 5500rpms but i'm not seeing numbers like that yet... fully trimmed up it seems to "throw" alot of water with the prop which to me seems odd... Any help on this would be great!!! |

Your rpm's are a little low and the Mirage is a very large diameter prop so you to get the rpm's up so you might want to take a look at a 19p tempest with the medium vent plugs. Is the Mirage prop in good shape and is the boat an LE or SE? |

The prop is in excellent shape, no dings nicks etc... When i bought the boat i was told my max WOT RPMs should be 6000 but to run it lower or its a gas guzzler... But 5200 seems really low to me, almost like its lugging... one thing i forgot to add was that the boat had been in the water once in the last couple years and I think the 1/2 tank of gas it had before i filled it was stale and is probably effecting the overall performance, I may have been a little premature in posting first run results although it seems to run okay.... Oh yeah, the tag on the boat says Pro-V IFS no se or le on it anywhere but the boat has a custom candy apple red paint job and all new decals on it.... I'm in a remote location so i don't have a prop shop at my disposal but i do have two 24" rakers but there for my javelin/evinrude that i thought might fit, and also have access to a High Five but i'm not sure what pitch.... What should this boat/motor run Properly set up???

It looks like an SE judging by the picture. On an LE the windshield would be further back. IFS LE's are fairly rare too I believe.

So I took her out again early this afternoon, did a whole bunch of laps around the lake and got some fuel additive running through it and burned over 1/2 tank of gas... best was just shy of 42mph @ 5100rpms and it averaged about 38-39mph... it seems to run better if I don't trim it out all the way and its throwing a approx. 4' rooster tail trimmed right out which is something i've never seen a lund do personally... I was expecting alot more out of this setup, i was expecting 50mph or so... does anybody else think that maybe the motor is too high??? I know in most cases higher is better at least on my Bass boat it is... Would going to a 19" tempest gain me speed??? I also noticed that the Mirage isn't vented but my hole shot seems okay, will having it vented help my top end???

I would get a 19 tempest to try out or a powertech RKR3 19. Both those props will give you more rpms and you will see a speed increase.

So I kept doing circles around the Lake this afternoon trying to run as much of the old gas out as possible, got it down to 1/4 tank, refueled and added some octane boost... when we were leaving the last fishing spot i went from dead idle to wide open on the controls and at about 3000-3500 rpms she kinda bucked coughed and snorted and then to my surprise took off like a bullet!!! 48.7@5600rpms was the best it ran after that... I'd love to try a 19" prop but i don't have one at my disposal and don't wanna shell out big $$$ for a new one that might not end up improving overall performance... Potentially with the mirage 21" what do you guys think the best overall top end i'm likely to see??? I was expecting 50mph+ when I bought the rig...
I also have read that the F200 like to be run as close to 6000rpm as possible for better performance and fuel milage, is there any truth to this??? Should I be running premium fuel only in this motor or would regular work??? |

![]() But Propmann is right ...a 19 Merc Tempest is a great prop for your rig. You want to be cranking 6000 when running @ WOT and best trim. Last edited by T Mac; 06-30-2012 at 06:43 PM. |

^ makes sense!!! She ran alot better today, averaging 46 and change around 5300-5700rpm... It really seems to run better (faster) when i don't trim it all the way out, the motor is up one hole off the transom... Is that a common setting on the Pro-V??? Most boats of this style that I have been in are right down on the transom... I'm going to look for a tempest to try as well...
also do those Hydrofoil things (whale tails) work??? I mean would i see any benifits from installing one??? the reason i'm asking is that I know my prop slip gets higher when trimmed fully up, but if i had one of those on would it "hold" more water at the prop causing less prop slip while still being able to get my rpms up without having to lower the motor??? |

Burned out all the gas in it yesterday and got it filled up and a can of seafoam in the tank, running way better last night no sputtering and not nearly as sluggish!!! Thanks for all the help, Would still like some opinions on the whale tails for this set up...
