Default Ranger Trail Ball Socket Latch?

The ball socket latch on my 2007 single axle ranger trail keeps disconnecting while under way and causes the trailer to bang against the hitch ball. It is frighting sometimes .
Is there any adjustment in the system to alleviate this?

Are you talking about the coupler latch?
If that is what is coming unlatched... you better swing by the dealer or trailer place and see why.... before your trailer comes off the ball while underway.

There's convenient store a half mile from the house and it's my first stop on the way to the water. Sure got a lot riding on that safety pin being in place, huh.
I'll get someone to look at it, asap.

I imagine the spring that is suppose hold the latch pin from sliding back & forth is weak, causing the latch to slide far enough to pop open. My 2005 Ranger trailer did the same thing a few years ago. Called Ranger and ordered a new ball hitch and haven't had a problem since. Now I have a spare hitch

My guess is that you have a UFP actuator, here's the manual for it. There's no adjustment for fit on the ball, but they do advise you to contect them if there is a problem.

I imagine that you need a 2 inch ball for that hitch don't you?

This is a Tie Down Engineering Actuator. I have the service manual and it said to make sure the ball was not less than 1.97". I checked it with a caliper and it's okay. Other than that there is no adjustments. I raised the trailer hitch 2"-3" with the jack to make sure it didn't come off the ball and it's secure.
I found the break fluid very low. I just checked it the last outing and it was full. There is no evidence of leaks and I doubt break fluid evaporates so it'll be on it's way to a service center asap.
All caused by lack of use

A53. Not all couplers are the same. They do have one thing in common though. They can get loose with normal usage and that's why we have safety chains. Check out the new ShurTow unit for worry free towing. Pretty cool unit. Keeps you on the ball no matter how rough the roads are and stops your trailer from going through your tailgate even if your chains hold. Lots of guys on this site are using it.

I guess I can say maybe I was fortunate the coupler latch lead me to look at this actuator. It had blown its seals and was empty of fluid. I called Ranger looking for an O/H kit for the master cylinder but there are no parts and they have changed vendor so I'm having to replace the actuator with the UFP unit. There was no conversation about the wheel hub and rotor assemblies being problematic so I dodged that bullet, for now anyway. I hate I have to spend this money cause I been saving for something else, but oh well, with a good price from Ranger and doing it myself is saving me a bundle because dealer said everything had to be replaced, so it's all good, I guess...
