Frydog,
Pull all of the line off of that spool. Take the spool of line that spooled that rod and throw it away. You have checked and don't have a rod or reel problem, so it is a bad line issue. Throw away that batch and try a different batch. Then, respool your rod and get on with fishing. REW |

I spooled up again with a different line (Berkely XL) snapped on first cast. Decided to go extra heavy/tough with Sufix 832. Cast okay first time. Second snapped right off. Got the guides out in the bright sun and inspected for 20 minutes. Couldn't find a darn thing.
Finally took a foot of line through each each, grabbed each end and went back and forth. On the very top eye, cut right through the 832 3 times. Some kind of a really small but extremely sharp nick in there. Newer pole (used 3 times) maybe defective, or more likely something happened in transport or rod locker. Wish I could say it was from a huge and aggressive fish... Anyway, off to bait shop to get guide replaced. Mystery solved. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. -Fry |

So, the initial testing was not complete.
Glad that you found the issue. Be safe REW |

Exactly, didn't think I'd have to "floss" my guides to find a nick that sharp...but it was there. (maybe the extra flossing will keep me from getting gingivitis on my Fenwick
