I like the course up, but when drifting with a light wind everyone in the boat get all confused if we drifted off our spot to far, so I will put the North up so they can see where we are in relation to our Waypoints.

North Up 90% of the time also. I too use the course up when boating distance sometimes when going more than a couple miles along a shoreline. To me, it's nice to see some of the bays ahead of time and how they are oriented to the direction I'm traveling. Once I get to the spot, I use the North Up orientation all the time. Otherwise the chart keeps spinning and moving around, since the GPS isn't great at figuring out which direction you are traveling if going at slow speeds.
Also, when drifting, the boat is usually sideways to the direction you're traveling anyways, the chart moving makes it that much more confusing how the depth contours are layed out. |
