Default "Mini" planer boards

How do folks who have the mini planer boards like them.

I am looking at picking up a pair of planer boards for some plug trolling (mostly SR 5s and 7s, etc) and was thinking these might do the trick.

Should I be looking at the bigger ones?

Go with the regular size boards and thank me later. Any situation you would use mini boards for, you can use regular size boards and they will perform better. Tattle kits alone are reason enough to have full size boards.

I do use some of the yellow bird boards. Pulling anything bigger than a #7 or #9 Rapala diver it gets hard to see the board in chop and need a spotlight at night if you run anymore than 15 feet from the boat. Thinking hard of getting or making a big set of boards.

i have a couple of the red church mini boards and used them for trolling crappies in the early spring. They work fine for that purpose, I wouldn't troll for walleyes with them.

I have a few of the smaller TX12 Church boards. They work great for inland lakes where the walleyes don't grow to 'Great Lakes' size.

They work really well for shad raps, wally divers, hot n tots, ect.

I've trolled for walleye with the Off Shore Tackle Mini boards...using crawler harnesses with 1oz inline weights. They worked great for Walleye.

I agree with Juls, I'm basically a hardcore weekend fisherman LOL, but I use the Church and Off-shore mini's for WALLEYE and I love them (prefer the church for the spring loaded quick release). I don't run weights off these but I've used TT15's and had no issues. They have some limitations and obviously don't pull to the sides as well as a bigger board but I really enjoy all the advantages of an ultra-light board (I'm sure you all understand the advantages so I won't get into them). Frankly, I understand the trade offs with the bigger boards and for me these mini's are perfect!

OK, so many are like me and have the mini boards that work great on the smaller lakes and have no trouble running in-line with them. Am I mistaken in my belief that the bigger boards are rigged differently or are they setup in a similar fashion?
