Bill, nothing wrong with your memory at all!! Until I saw that old ad I just could not come up with it. However, I did have a distinct memory of having one of those Daredevles long, long ago. Today I went on a quest through all those boxes on the garage shelves. Lo and behold, at the bottom of a box of lake trout spoons I found her! Looking like brand new. Ah . . . the memories somethings bring back!

Thanks for the help in tracking it down.
I decided that radio silence was in order for a bit. That lure was on EBay, and I was concerned that I would attract competition. I won the auction, so I'll come out of hiding. I also communicated with Eppinger directly. I didn't realize that they did have crystal in their catalog. Look at colors 4,5,6. According to this In-Fisherman article (http://archives.in-fisherman.com/con...tal-baits-bass), the baits came back in 1998 after a hiatus. I was told production ended again, but they do still have stock of many combinations. I found a few interesting things, but I'll have more later... Last edited by jsmyers; 07-05-2012 at 11:48 AM. Re: 4,5,6 - I'll be darned, I guess I missed them when I looked at the chart. Thanks for the info.

The finish is a metal working process called "lapping".

I have a couple of these old lures, and I believe the color was either silver pearl or pearl. I was told that they were forced to discontinue making this color because of the chemicals used to generate the finish. Thinking back, I probably bought these in the late fifties or early sixties, and haven't seen that finish since. I had two or three different sizes of the traditional daredevle, and a couple that were not as wide as the traditional daredevle. I also had a couple that had two little blades attached by small split rings next to the treble hook. All of them were great baits, and I suspect it was the uniqueness of the color. The baits I am referring to were not a hammered finish, but a smooth finish like the traditional daredevle.
