Welcome to the fast changing technical world of today! The same can be said of many of our new toys, such as cell phones, GPS, computers, printers, vehicles, et al. Planned obsolescence is part of the merchandising plans of many manufacturers. Keeps the bucks coming in.

You'll never keep up with todays tecnology. That 1198 is a nice screen.I run stuff till it dies then get the newest stuff they have out at that time. With electronics you'll play this game.

It's toast, throw the 1198 away, I'll send you my...er...the address for the disposal site, please wrap in bubblewrap as I...er..they like things in one piece and working when they dispose of them....

I generally buy things as the old ones wear out and hopefully at the end of the year close out, after fighting the audio battle for state of the art and spending way to much money I figured I was never gonna make it and enjoyed what I had.

I'm about to buy a 1198 and even with 360 scan on the way, I figure the 1198 will be more than I need anyway.

Enjoy the 1198.

Al

Don't I know it....I was a Hewlett Packard Rep when color printers, scanners, CD burners, Digital cameras & such came out. I'm still using the stuff now (plus newer) except now 64 bit & Win 7 is starting to make them obsolete (or hook up an XP laptop) Somewhere I have the original Contour Elite (by different name) by Lakemaster software I can still use to do a $50 upgrade and that must be 15+ yrs old.
I'm incorporating the 1198c SI with my Fish Mark 640 & Global Map 3600i.....BUT..... iCast is 07/09/12 when Humminbird is announcing the new stuff. Maybe I'm off the mark, but I'm guessing a 1168c SI TOUCHSCREEN that you can draw a route on the screen with a stylus or my finger for my I pilot to follow. I'd have to have that if my guess is correct.

What do you think they are going to announce next week?

If youre thinking that the 360 is what you want or need, keep the 1198, because the 360 needs something to plug into..

Enjoy the 1198..

I heard there will be something for the i-Pilots to access waypoints on the locators. Guessing through ethernet......if so the 8 series locators should work.
