Been there, done that. In the 10-12 years that I've owned gensets, I've had from 1850 up to 7000 watt units, and have a dedicated fuse panel with the transfer switch and plug-in already set. But, in all that time, this is the first instance when I've actually needed to use it for MY house. All the others have been throw it in the vehicle, and take it elsewhere. That was the problem w/the big units, too heavy to move around, and too thirsty for gas. The Yamaha (yes, I own a Yamaha) EF2800i unit I've settled on is a "clean" inverter-output unit, so no worries about frying electronics, and only weighs about 70 pounds. And, just to clear the record, she DID have fans, and we even powered the DSL & router, so she could have wifi. HRG

My wife has a plan of action if ever something goes wrong and I am away. Pack some clothes. Load up kids in the car. Open garage door so someone can steal my boat. Go on vacation.

Yup if the power is out and she can't take a shower, clothes are packed and off to her sisters house. I guess why not, her sister has central a/c. One time the whole area was out for 4 days, we did pack up and go on a mini vacation.

My wife wants to leave because I fish one walleye tournament a year.
I'm sure going to miss her. |
