Default Trolling line?

Does anyone use color coded line for trolling? What type and brand? I used to use a line that changed color every 10 feet and could use on any reel. I can't really afford 4 new reels with line counters right now.

Power Pro Depth Hunter. I believe it's the same as the original, except it changes colors every ten feet.

Sufix also makes a couple different metered lines, a braid and a fused line. Colors change every 25 feet on those. If the PowerPro changes every 10ft, I'd probably try that first, you can be more accurate with faster color changes. Good luck.

X 2 on the Power pro stuff . You could also just go with a Line counter reel . Thats what I have now done .

if you already have rods/reels with line on them this may be a good option for you

it would save you from buying all that new braided line.

Here's another option. Drop a lure from your rod tip, move so it's behind you, free spool your reel, and swing your rod to your front. Measure the length of line your rod drops with a back to front sweep. It is surprising how accurately you can drop even 50' of line, and how repeatable this method is.
When in a slowly moving boat, just repeat the sweeps as your line straightens.

If you are good at math in your head, just count the passes on your levelwind reels. The way my Penn 209's were spooled, it was 17 feet across and back.

I use the PowerPro Depthmaster, It is a 4 color repeat (every time a color repeats you have let out 100'), 25' per color with a black tick every 5'. This is my first season using it, so I don't know how long it lasts before the colors fade.
