Default receiver hitch noise

anyone found a easy fix for reveiver hitch clanks? My new nissan titan has alot of slop in the reveiver and so does my brother in laws 2012 silverado..... Anyone else notice this or have an easy fix? My ford had a clank when I would initially hit the gas or the brakes but my nissan and his silverado have it on a more regualr basis like when hitting bumps in the road...input?

Check to make sure the pin holding the bar into the receiver is large enough. I assume you have no CLANK when you remove the bar?

It only clanks when I pull the trailer... More so at slower speeds...Its the same hitch that i had in my ford and it never sounded like that. Maybe its just more noticeable becasue my nissan is so much smoother and quieter than my Ferd....

you can make shims that slide into the sides of the receiver and that will end the clunking noise, thats what I did with mine on a new ford with new everything not all measurement are exact on the receivers.

Default Receiver Hitch Noise

I had a Nissan Pathfinder and pulled a Ranger 617. My receiver clanked but more on take offs and stops. I purchased another hitch, the part that goes into the receiver (Interlock). It (the Interlock)had a rubber insert that dampened the take off noise as well as stopping noise.

My suggestion is to first measure the receiver and the (Interlock) part that fits inside with the ball on it and see what kind of clearance you have. The receiver coupler may also be worn, check the clearances on that pin.

The boys at Toys for Trucks set me up with the rubber dampened Interlock. Might be worth checking with them

Probably a dumb question but it's not the surge bake set up clunking is it?

I'm thinking along the same lines with Allen W... I was going to ask if you have surge brakes or not, too.
Do you?

no brakes....... Its only a 6x12 enclosed trailer that is 6 ft tall... total weight at 1700lbs, tounge weight at 400 lbs on the truck. Brakes really are not needed on this trailer.
