I have a TUNDRA and made aluminum shims from a piece bent like an "L" Works great.

The farmer in me expressed itself by going to the shop and welding a light bead across the hitch. Then touching it up with the grinder until it fit back into the receiver.
A weld normally creates an inherent weak spot on either side so keep voltage low enough with just barely enough penetration to adhere. If you are concerned about reducing the strength of the hitch then weld it on the front of the hitch where there is no load bearing. Snug as a bug in a rug. Pooch
